Do to others as you would have them do to you. [Luke 6:31]
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, lean not on your own understanding. [Proverbs 3:5]
Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. [Hebrews 11:1]

Seven Seven Seven...

  • Seven Ways to Restart Your Day
    Beliefnet Feature from Oprah.com.

You've just woken up, and you're on the wrong side of the bed. Is there any way to switch to the other side? Absolutely.

For those times when your mind is addled, and your center is shaky; open this little black bag of cures and find your beautiful balance!

By Kathryn Matthews from O, The Oprah Magazine, October 2007

As soon as the alarm rings...
Spend your first 15 seconds awake planning something nice to do for yourself today. "This can really set you up in a good mood--even if it's just going by the farmers' market and getting fresh strawberries," says Alice Domar, PhD, whose next book--Be Happy Without Being Perfect: How to Break Free from the Perfection Deception--will be out in March 2008.

    Get up.
The longer you lie there, the more you ruminate, the darker your outlook is likely to become, says Christine Padesky, PhD, coauthor of Mind Over Mood. So get vertical and make a cup of coffee, take a shower, feed the cat...

    Drink...
Make that two glasses of water upon awakening, the time when our bodies are dehydrated, says Susan M. Kleiner, PhD, author of The Good Mood Diet. Dehydration causes fatigue, which affects your mood.

    Move it.
You already know the number one way of chasing away a bad mood: exercise. A workout at the gym sure helps. But even just a few minutes of movement--a fast walk, for example--raises energy and reduces tension, says mood expert Robert Thayer, PhD, professor of psychology at California State University, Long Beach, and author of Calm Energy.

    Investigate.
When you're dogged by anxiety or the dread you woke up with, try to pinpoint what's causing it. Did someone say anything the day before? Do you have a meeting today you wish you didn't? Was it the dream you were having when the alarm went off? "If you can figure out why you're upset, that's halfway to feeling better," says Domar.

    Be kind and thankful.
This isn't exactly news, but generosity and gratitude are both big contributors to happiness, according to Todd B. Kashdan, PhD, who directs the Laboratory for the Study of Social Anxiety, Character Strengths, and Related Phenomena at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. Do something nice for a stranger or friend and see if you don't feel better about yourself. Also, jot down three things that you're grateful for. It seems so simple, but counting your blessings just has a way of making you remember the sun is shining.

    Laugh at yourself.
The best comedians point out the mundane aspects of life--relationship strife, a boring job, a closet full of too-tight clothes; they exaggerate those circumstances, and give us a perspective we can laugh about, says Mark Ridley, owner of the Comedy Castle in Royal Oak, Michigan. Look at your own life and try to appreciate the absurdity of what doesn't go exactly according to plan (the diets, the men, the buzz cut). Acknowledging how little control we actually have over what happens is sometimes a most freeing gift to yourself.

  • Seven Steps to Improving Relationships

    By Rabbi Brad Hirschfield

Conflict is an inevitable part of life, but it need not always be painful. In fact, we all have within us the ability to sustain relationships even when we deeply disagree. When we reach our breaking point (as we all do), and need to walk away, we can do so in ways that make it more likely that we will come back together.

Here are seven ancient Talmudic steps to follow when confronted with a conflict. They create conversation--not denigration--and encourage us to talk about what matters most in ways that hurt the least.

    1. Give Yourself a Break
Sometimes you need some distance-some time to cool off and reflect. But it should be just that, i.e., a limited amount of time after which you and the person with whom you are fighting agree to come back together and revisit the issues. A time out can be a great thing, as long as its design is to bring you back together.

    2. Respect the Other Person's Dignity
The one whom you are in conflict with should never lose their value as a human being. No matter how right you think you are and how wrong they may be, don't deny their dignity; you will do more harm than good.

    3. Experience Radical Empathy
We must do everything in our power to identify with the other person and their position before fighting for our own. Simply saying that we understand their point of view is not enough--be able to argue it well and present it as if you shared it yourself.

    4. Acknowledge Your Partner's Wisdom
Before we can be their teacher, we must first become their student. We must accept that no matter how wrong someone is about one thing, they are unlikely to be wrong about everything. Nobody is smart enough to be 100 percent right or dumb enough to 100 percent wrong.

    5. Know That Conflict Hurts Everyone
Appreciate that even when we are doing everything right in handling our relationships, we all pay a price when a conflict unfolds. Being right should not insulate us from feeling the pain that is a part of the conflict in which we are engaged.

    6. Look First to Yourself
Even when we are right, we should always ask how we participate in creating and perpetuating the conflict. We all play the blame game sometimes, but it's important to point a thumb back at ourselves before a finger at the other person.

    7. Remember, Being Right Is Not Enough
Remind ourselves that the only real justification for conflict with those about whom we care is that it addresses an issue, which is central to sustaining the relationship over time. If it's just about being right, then it probably isn't worth it.

  • My Seven American Idol Favorites...

  • It's been a lazy weekend for me. Was in bed most of the time. Watched a few movies. I recommend Juno. Across the Universe was ok, I didn't loved it but I didn't disliked it either. Though the guy who played Jude was easy on the eyes. Martian Child was good enough for me, John Cusack was they reason why I watched it anyways and he's always good for me. I love hearing him talk. SIGH. I also watched Dedication [Mandy Moore and Billy Crudup], hmmm, there are some movies that when you see who's in it, you get interested in, but when you start watching the movie, it's like, hmmmm, just have to finish the movie to see how it all ends, though, I pretty much knew what was coming. Hee. I like Mandy Moore. Billy was ok. Margot at the wedding stars Nicole Kidman, Jennifer Jason Leigh and Jack Black, the movie is not a comedy. I don't know what to make of it. I'm glad it wasn't a long movie though. I still have to watch Into the Wild, Awake, Silk, The Bucket List, My Blueberry Nights to watch in the coming days.
  • Didn't really get to do productive things except I ironed some jeans and shirts Saturday night. I planned on cleaning [basically just arranging my what-not] my room but that didn't worked out. Hee.
  • Had semi-off chats with NG this weekend. We get those once in a while. There are times that you just want to be with someone and not talk right? But can't do that when you're in a long distance relationship. You can't be on YM and not type anything, the other might think you're mad or something. Can be tough times. Oh well. We tend to take it as it comes. Soon enough we'd get to spend time together and just be. No more looking at each other's webcams and all that. 3 years of doing that made me asked myself why did I agree on it in the first place? I'm not regretting it. It is what it is. Praying about things.
  • It's a brand new month, NG feels it will be our month, hoping for the best is all. My youngest sister will be arriving on Wednesday from Thailand [a pit stop from Dubai]. She texted me earlier saying that their flight from Dubai to Thailand was delayed. And she'll be arriving here in Manila on Wednesday instead of Tuesday. All good. Already have plans on taking her to a spa for a massage and what not. And she'll be celebrating her birthday here, she'll be 28. How time flies. Indeed. I feel my March will be good, if only for my sister being here, I think that's enough reason to yes? NG might be here too, if all things go as planned.
  • Here's to a good March for all of us. Keep that faith. God Bless.

    Family, Friends and NG...

Three years with NG today. Who would have thought? Not me. But I'm not complaining. Well, except for the distance of course, that's a bitch. 23000++ emails between us since 12.13.2004. Don't have the time to count the hours of chat but we chat every weekend, 3-4 hours max, you do the math. We sms chat via Yahoo [him on YM, me on my mobile phone] every day. Weekend phone calls just to hear each other's voices. We never got around to online voice chats for some reason. Hee. We've been in contact every day except for one weekend in February 2005 when NG went out of town with his HS buddies. It's a long distance relationship alright.

Communicating in ways that we can. We first met February 2006, spent 2 weeks together. Then back to the long distance thing again. Met again in February of this year, for another two weeks. It's not enough but that's the only time we can get for now. Just waiting for another two weeks or more, in time. Though, I know, will see NG again last week of February or first week of March 2008, whether or not I get a VISA thingy. That's not far no? December is halfway through.

Another two weeks in 2008 or more...we'll find out. For now, we're just waiting and we're just taking it one day at a time. We have plans but they are only that for now until we get to be in the same timezone and start on making those plans happen.

I don't recommend long distance relationships but unless it happens to you in a way that you never thought it would, I think, that's something to consider. BUT I don't recommend finding a long distance relationship. It's not easy. There are times that you feel you just want to give up already but you want to be with that person so much and so bad and you just have to not think of giving up.

Life is not a fairytale even if I was stuck in that mindset in my early 20s. But you can have a real life fairytale if you want to. As long as you have family or friends or someone who loves you for who you are, you're set, though there are times, when you all have three and I'm grateful that I have those in my real life fairytale. I'm blessed. I know it. I just have to realize it more and more and more until I fully believe that I deserve all of this.

To my family, I know my sisters are reading this, I appreciate having you in my life, I may not say it as often as I should but you know it right?

To my friends, I know some of you read this, your friendships are important to me, I don't care if I only have a handful [though in my case, I have more than a handful of really good friends], it's not about the number of friends you have but the quality of friendships you have with people who you'll want to be in your life for life. Hee.

To NG, if you're reading this, I know you sometimes do, 3 years and you say lots more right? I just might take you up for that. Keeping my end of the deal. Thank you for you know what. Hee.

I am Vikkicar and I am blessed.

    It Takes Two...

  • It's a Monday and I'm at home. Another one of them Holidays here in the Philippines. We are so spoiled in having numerous Holidays. Only in the Philippines as the saying goes. A friend mentioned that she heard that next Monday could be another Holiday too. She ain't sure but who knows. We all get Holidays for different reasons. I just feel for those people who work with no work, no pay deal.
  • I started saving beginning of the year. My savings for January and half of February, I used when NG was here, I took care of the pesos. He charged the rest to his card. I know my share wasn't as much as what he spent here but that's the least I could do to be fair in the situation right? He went home with his dollar bills still untouched. Which was good. Even if he insisted [one too many times] that he should have it exchange to peso, I didn't falter in that and I told him I had enough to cover whatever that may need to be taken care of in pesos. I still remember the look he gave me each time I tell him it's okay. Some guys just seem to be uncomfy whenever the girl gets to pays no? Not like I didn't let him pay right? Not just in cash. I just did what I thought was fair at that time.
  • I continued saving March to June. I was doing good then came July. Started with me spending on a concert ticket [for Switchfoot] then some other expenses, the usual toiletries and what not. When you have extra money, you suddenly have things to buy. Hee. My savings for July was history. Though, I didn't feel bad about it because I made Nadine and AJ happy when I took care of the shirts they wanted at Surplus Shop. Seeing them happy at that moment is just something money can't buy. Nadine chose the shirt she got. Funny gurl, 8 years old and she chooses what she'll wear already. Treat them for a Sbarro dinner. It's a good feeling to be able to make them happy in my own little way. I know it wasn't much but still, I know, I made them happy at that time. I told myself, I'd just scratched July off.
  • I'm saving for August. That hasn't been touched. Though, last Monday the 13th, I just felt like I needed something to cheer me up [being with EBC the night before helped a bunch though] had a not-so-good weekend with NG at that time and I haven't been getting much sleep. Felt pretty down if you ask me. PMS alert is what it was. Hee. Men will never understand it, that feeling every woman feels each time they have their period or when it's approaching. It's like nothing can't cheer you up. Hee. You're aware that you don't have a huge problem but the feeling of being down is there, for some reason. I can't explain it further it's just a feeling I get each month. I think, I've asked my friends about that and they feel the same too. Right gurls?
  • So, I asked permission from Uncle Boss that I'm taking Monday off, had to run an errand in the morning. Then I made my way to Trinoma with the thought of making myself somewhat cheery when I get home. I made a mental check list of the things that I needed [wanted] to buy. Pants, sneakers, shirt[s]. I looked around for shoes first but didn't really find something that I liked and when I did find something that I liked they didn't have it in my size.
  • In the process of me looking for things that I might like, I got to a shirt store called BSX. And I found this for SisterM because I know she just hearts Mr. Miller. There were no I heart Orlando or Leonardo shirts.

And got this for SisterJ, I wanted the same shirt but again, none on my size, they run out and they're not sure when they'll have new stocks from HongKong.

I looked around some more, there were nice vintage looking shirts at ARTWORK but again, the sizes were either small or big on me. Boohoo. The saleslady was insisting on me getting the bigger size, I told her no even if I liked the shirt that says GOOD MUSIC SAVES PEOPLE. She was really insistent on me getting other designs but I only liked that one. Then finally, I found this shirt from American Boulevard and once I knew they had one on my size, it was a done deal.
I got this pants from BENCH, they have a huge store there in Trinoma. It was fun looking around. I should have taken pictures.

And I liked this shoes and got it. Must be the color combination. Hee. It was on sale too btw. So, all in all, good deal right? I remember back in Elementary when my Tatay was working in Jersey, he used to send us PONY shoes.

  • Also, I got me a few undies, I don't know why I bought them, I know I have a lot as it is. Though not as much as NurseA has. Hee. I thought, it would cheer me up at that time. I kinda regret it because I could have bought shirts or what not instead. Whatever. I got some for NG too. He told me I didn't had to and he will pay me back for it, whether I like it or not. Hah. But he does like the idea of me buying him stuff. Though, he said, he'd pay for it, I'll just choose for him. We were suppose to go undies shopping the last day of his visit last February but he got a bit under the weather and was crabby cranky like that. Hee. Maybe, next time, definitely next time, I know my friends will know I'd enjoy that. I like men in undies. I'm stopping now before I say anything more.
  • Before I went home, I passed by a massage spa place near our area and had an hour body massage. Yes. That did good to my body. When I got home. I went straight to bed and zzzz. Been planning to have a massage for the longest time but didn't happen until last Monday. I want to have it again soon. Maybe, by the end of the month.
  • I sometimes forget that I'm not the only one feeling the sadness of being in a long-distance relationship, NG told me this on chat that Monday: Till then please forgive the cranky nights and what not, I get fussy cause of the space between just the same..., he also said, he just doesn't tell me because it will just make it even sadder. Sigh. I really don't recommend long-distance relationships. Just imagine how many families/relationships have broken up because one or both parties can't take not having someone near them. Sigh indeed. Just have to have faith yes?
  • That will be it for now. Have a fine week. God Bless.

    Found...

  • Another weekend once again and as always, I am all for it. I've been having a hard time sleeping the past few weeks...I know rather I feel tired but once I am in bed, sleep just won't go my way. Last night [okay it was around 2am-ish], I started watching this movie Caffeine, American actresses like Mena Suvari and Katherine Heigl have English [I think] accents in this indie film. I fell asleep in the middle of the movie, I finished it when I woke up this morning.
  • I knew I was really sleepy tired because I left the dvd player on and I only realized it when I continued to watch the movie. Doink to me. I did turn off the TV though, so, at least, that's less electricity consumed for being sleepy. I always make it a point to turn off things when not in use. It's a conscious thingy. Even if I'm not in my own house, I notice things like that. Hee. I keep quiet most of the time. I get on NGs case on that, coz whenever we're chatting, he turns on his AC when he gets home, and it's not just in a room where he's in, then his tv is on while we're chatting. His music is on as well. He told me though that his electric bill is on a fixed rate [$70 if I remember it right] each month, whether he consume a lot of electricity or not, he still pays the same. So, I guess, it's ok to have things turned on even if you're not using it? It still gets to me though.
  • Our electric bill for last month was Php5,680. I live with my parents and my cousin Alfred. We have a fridge, washing machine, an AC at my parent's room, shower heater [that apparently, I'm the only one who uses each morning...hee], computer, 2 electric fans [used to be 3 but mine died on me, so, each night, I use my parent's fan once their AC is on, need a replacement soon], 2 tv and dvd players, and we have the egg incubator [24/7]. Still, it's a big amount yes? Our house rent is only Php5000 each month. And I don't pay these things, my sisters does, I only get to cover the phone/dsl and I give some money to Mom each week. Not much but I try to give more when I have more. I'm guessing, you get conscious with things like consumed electricity when you're not the one who pays for it? Knowing how not easy it is to earn cash. Heck, it gets to me whenever I see street lights still on each morning. Hee.
  • Continuing this post after my chat with NG, which kinda ended in a not-so-good mood, the downside of being in a long distance relationship. Arrrghhh. You can't whack them in the head to get your thoughts across. Hee, I'm kidding about that, I'm not a violent person. I mean, being in a regular [same timezone] relationship is tough enough, how much more if you're on different ones. He's sleepy. You just woke up. Or vice versa. But we've been doing this for almost 3 years now, so, we know it happens. We can't always have good moments right? I'm glad the not-so-good moments seldom happens. It's a bitch when it does. Tomorrow is yet another day. Taking is one day at a time.

  • Do you have a Myspace account? I do. I started it last year to support Jamie Walters and some artists. I took that page down and made a new one 2 weeks ago. And I'm glad I went back. I found out that my cousins/nephews/nieces are on there. It's a good way to keep in touch with them. One of them even have a myspace meant for her fans. She's a calendar gurl. If your nice to me, I might give her public myspace account to you. i noticed too that most people in the USA prefer Myspace than Friendster.

  • I've had my Friendster profile the longest, most of my the people that I met in person are on there. Recently, I found [or they found me] people from Dataline [the AMA College Paper I was a briefly a part of], I'm happy about that. My former EIC is on my list now.

  • I have a Multiply page too, I like having it to share pix and music. A friend uploaded the audio books of Harry Potter 1-3. I have downloaded it, I just have to transfer them to my Ipod. Maroon5's latest was uploaded by a friend as well, it's actually better than the album itself since, she had other songs that are Bonus tracks on different versions of the album. I'm waiting for someone to upload KT Tunstall's album. NG has a copy for awhile but it's still unwrapped. Will just have to wait, no point in buying a CD which he already has.
  • Speaking of CDs that I have. Found out I have 116 in total, I made a list for NG so, he could cross out the ones he already have. So, I won't have to bring it with me if/when I get to go to where he's at. If you find something you like, do tell and I'll upload them via Multiply. Music is good yes? It can be very calming at times. Or if you don't want to talk to anyone, just have your earphones on. Hee.

    Botohan 2007...

  • It's Election Day today in the Philippines. It'll be my second time to vote. I actually don't have my 12 senators yet but I have a pretty good idea as to whom I'll vote for. I don't like politics. Politics is dirty most often than not. I pray about the people who are running for different positions, that they will indeed do something good for the people and not [first and foremost] to get the money back they used for their campaigning. But we all know most of them will get those back. I got a forwarded email with a breakdown on how much a senator gets in a month. Php35,000 is the salary based on the email but a senator gets a monthly FIXED budget of almost 2 Million Pesos. I think an elected senator's term is 3 years. Do the math as to how much they get for that period of time.
  • There's a going trend here in the Philippine politics, where tv/movie/sports personalities running for whatever position they decide on. Am I gonna vote for someone I see on tv/movies? Hmmm. I saw this one tv commercial of a senatoriable [is that a legit word?] where another famous actor whom he's had an issue with for a long time suddenly were shaking hands and what not and saying they patched things up for one common cause. That was like...OH YEAH!!! I wonder how much that other actor got for appearing in that commercial? As well as the other famous personalities who endorses other candidates. Ka-ching! Easy money no? I guess, the saying "it pays to be famous" works in times like this.
  • Politics is a popularity thingy here in the Philippines. I will not be surprised if the candidates who spent a lot on their tv/radio commercials and print ads will not win. Vote buying is another thing. Oh well. I'm just gonna pray for them. Since poverty is a big thing here, a lot of people will surely be tempted to sell their vote for 1000 pesos. That's money they can used to feed their family anyways. Oh well. Sad sad reality. I hope and pray that most of the people that I'm gonna vote for later today will do something good if ever they get elected.
  • I plan to vote early. There's one candidate running for councilor here in our area, he gave out ID type cards with the voters name and the precinct number where we have to go to. Clever no? Maybe, I'd vote for him, since he already did something useful for most people no? There's another councilor re-electionist who had street signs with his effing mug shot on every sign. WTF. Yes, it was his project but why must he have his face on it too? That was just odd to me is all. Oh well. He might win again. Who knows really. Jomari's ex-wife is a councilor re-electionist as well. She might win again too. She's famous after all. I am not aware of whatever she's done for our area though. I don't really follow this stuff.
  • One thing is for sure, if a candidate loses, he/she will say he/she got cheated on. If a candidate wins, most people think he/she won because he cheated.
  • Last Friday was a frustrating one for me at work. GRRRRRR to a few people at the Bureau of Customs. The nature of my job really gets to me at times. It's a lot to bear at times. It's like you're doing your best to finish your job as early as possible but there are times, some people just makes it impossible. GRRRRR indeed. I wanted to cry over it but why bother no? Hell is filled with people like them. It was a busy week, another busy week ahead of me this week though because of the election, I got an extra non-working day. Someone should move the voting day on a weekend. Some people are on a no work/no pay basis. If you love having legal Holidays and what not, you gotta love the Philippines for that. Hee.
  • On a lighter happier note, 29 months with NG since yesterday the 13th. Hah. When we talked over the phone, we were like, 29 months...I KNOW!!! Who would have thought no? SIGH. Not easy being in a long-distance relationship. We have good days. We have bad days. We just try to deal with it as best as we could. Faith.
  • Also, a belated Happy Mother's Day to you if you're a Mom.
  • Have a fine week ahead to you and to you too. Keep the faith. God Bless.

    Twenty Five...

  • 25 months today. 20 thousand ++ mails between NG and me. Numerous hours [I don't think I have the energy to count them, averaging 3++ hours one day of the weekend, do that math...hee] on weekend chats. Weekday SMS/YM chats [1-2 hours]. Weekend phone calls [just to say hi's byes and what not]. 2 Weeks of not doing those online thingies last February but actually being together in one time zone. And another two weeks coming up next month. Until now, I still, can't believe that this is all happening. I still have a few doubts. Mostly, on myself. I tend to doubt my capabilities of handling a relationship. A long-distance [for now] at that. Keeping faith. Yes, that's all I can do for now. If it's meant to be, it'll happen, no matter what right? Right. God Bless.
